The wall of esophagus, stomach and small intestine is coated with a mucosa which protects our digestive system against stomach acids. If gastric acids damage stomach mucosa then an open sore can be created on the stomach wall. What causes open sore? A sort of helix-shaped bacterium named Helicobacter pylori causes the open sore. In fact, Helicobacter pylori are facultative bacteria which survive and multiply within the mucosa of accessory digestive organs.

However sometimes due to an unknown reason it may disorder the mucous membrane and mucous tissue. It spreads and becomes inflamed within the intestinal of the stomach wall or duodenum wall and causes atrophic gastritis or open sores known as peptic ulcers.
